Ohaneze Nidigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group has reportedly rejected the endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan to re-run for the second term in the number one office in 2015.
President Goodluck Jonathan
Senator Chris Ngige, a member representing Anambra central senatorial zone, while speaking with journalists, revealed that the group has agreed to insulate Ohaneze from partisan politics.
“We will support no presidential candidate. We will be neutral because Ohaneze is made of people from diverse political parties. People who belong to parties should go their parties and canvass for their own candidates. They can talk to Nigerians from their own political parties and not from Ohanaeze,” he said.
The lawmaker further explained that such aspirants are allowed to canvass from the standpoint of their party and not from Ohaneze Nidigbo, insisting that the Mr. President’s endorsement will not be obtainable as agreed by the apex Igbo body.
It would be recalled that on November 8, 2014, a chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, expressed optimism that President Goodluck Jonathan, as a representative of the South South, will win next year's Presidential electionin Nigeria.
Meanwhile, on October 29, 2014, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Vitor Umeh defended the adoption of Goodluck Jonathan, as sole aspirant in the 2015 presidential election after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, September 18, decided to adopt President Goodluck Jonathanas its sole candidate for 2015 presidential elections.
